New Year’s week was quiet for us. We took only one trip out of town. Tracy and her husband Jim showed us around Jim’s hometown in Nantou City. Jim grew up in Zhongxing New Village, a planned community in Nantou City. It’s a beautiful, peaceful place.

This area was hit hard by the big earthquake in 1999. Some of the places where the buildings were destroyed were made into parks instead of rebuilt. The day we were there was a great day for kite flying.
Once again Taiwan’s emerging tourist industry fails to provide information. There were big, beautiful museums (closed for the holidays when we were there) that don’t show in any of the guide books I have or in an internet search. Other things that are in the guide books have been much less interesting to me. Fortunately we have gotten some good advice from locals on what is worth seeing. We’ll be back to look at the museums and walk in the parks.

More museums not in the guidebooks? Seriously, you should get in touch with Lonely Planet or the Rough Guides. You two would be great for them. At the very least, TripAdvisor might a good place for your finds!
Regardless, I think my favorite picture is the one of you two. You both look happy and relaxed, and your expressions reflect just how good this adventure is for you. There’s just so much joy on both of your faces, and I think about what was going on in your lives a little over a year ago, and the situation was so much different. May the year of the female water snake continue to be this wonderful for you!
THAT’S A GIANT DRAGON THAT YOU COMPLETELY FAILED TO MENTION WHAT
also what Chris said; wonderful relaxed picture of the two of you!
Oh yeah. That one. It’s a huge sculpture outside the museum. Pretty cool, huh?
